WEDNESDAY NIGHT RACING INSTRUCTIONS

Effective May 26, 2004

 

  1. PARTICIPATION
    All AYC members are eligible to participate in Wednesday Night Racing. 

    2.  SCHEDULE
    Races will start at 6:30PM.  Specific dates will be posted on Club House Bulletin Board and in the Tell Tales.

    Each race will last approximately 10 minutes and every effort will be made to complete 4 to 6 races per evening. The last one will end at sunset. 

    3.  CLASSES
    All boats, regardless of class, will start at the same time.

    4.  REGISTER
    Each skipper must register with the *Rescue Boat prior to the first race by giving skipper name, boat type and sail number.

    5.  SCORING

A.  A low point scoring system, in conjunction with the Portsmouth System, will be used:  1 point for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd place, etc.  Other scores:

DNS   - number of racers started plus 1

DNF   - number of racers finished plus 1
DSQ   - number of racers started plus 1

B.  Final series score will be the total number of points scored by a skipper during the series.

C.  Ties will be broken as follows:
            

First--- by the greatest number of 1st  places,  then 2nd places etc.

Second---in which a skipper has beaten the other skipper in more races where both have raced.
Third--- by the skipper  who beat the other in the last race that both skippers raced

6.  COURSE
All races will be from leeward start/finish line to windward mark and return downwind across the start/finish line; i.e., one time, up and back.

7.  STARTS
All starts will be done by using a whistle or horn as follows:
3 long - 3 minutes
2 long - 2 minutes
1 long 1 short - 1 1/2 minutes
1 long - 1 minute
3 shorts - 30 seconds
2 shorts - 20 seconds
1 short - 10 seconds
1 long sound, when the 10 seconds are up, for Start

8.  NOTIFICATION
Any information such as General Recall, Postponement , etc., will be handled by using the Bull Horn in lieu of Flag(s).
